Physical Education at The Oxford Academy is a popular subject that students across all year groups are involved in.

The focus of PE is to provide young people with opportunities to develop their passion and skill across a range of sports and activities, as well as educate the students on how to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, teaching them how to be confident young leaders, so they can make a positive contribution towards the society they live in.

The PE curriculum is designed to encourage our young people to be creative, and build on their teamwork skills, self-confidence, leadership skills and communication through a range of sports; and for those who wish to take the academic pathway, we prepare these students for success within the GCSE and BTEC options.

Our enrichment program is extensive, based on student voice of interest, as well as sports that the Academy excels in; it provides students with opportunities for further enjoyment and enables them to further develop skills to a higher level, and many go on to compete with the teams both at the regional and national level.

KS4 (GCSE)

In GCSE Physical Education (PE) the specification has been designed to allow learners to study PE in an academic setting.

60% of the course is assessed through two 60-minute exams. In theory lessons, students investigate the link between physical activity and health, and how athletes adapt physically and mentally to the changing sports environment. The course requires students to underpin their practical performances with theoretical knowledge of the anatomical, physiological and psychological demands of physical activity, and how to make decisions about what to do in their own fitness and training.

30% is based on developing their practical performance in three sports, to a high level of performance. Practical lessons will cover a range of different sports before three sports are chosen to be assessed in. These will be a combination of individual and/ or team sports. Students are expected to attend lunchtime and after-school clubs each week to support their practical performance development over the two years of the course.
